Praised for her “soaring soprano” and “winning stage presence,” Allyson Herman is an emerging artist known for her pinpoint musicianship and uncommon versatility in a wide range of styles and repertoire. This season, she will be seen as Despina in Cosi fan tutte with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, Ms. Herman was seen as The Countess in Le nozze di Figaro with Bronx Opera, and as Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte with Opera Cooperative. Other recent credits include Countess Ceprano in PORTopera’s mainstage production of Rigoletto; and as Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi with PORTopera’s Young Artist Program.

Recent credits include the role of Alice Ford in Falstaff with Utopia Opera; Lucy in Kirke Mechem’s The Rivals with the Bronx Opera, in which she was praised for her “saucy character and her skillful singing”; and Alice Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff in conjunction with the Martina Arroyo Foundation. Critics hailed her as a “strong, decisive” and “spunky, take-charge Alice, dispatching her music with a clean, clear soprano”. In addition, she was a resident with Opera Singers Initiative, where she was a featured artist in numerous concerts and galas in New York City.

Past performances include the soprano solo in the Mozart Requiem with the Astoria Symphony Orchestra, Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro with Opera on the Avalon, Pamina in The Magic Flute with Tony Amato’s Opera in Brief, Pascal in Randall Eng’s Henry’s Wife in conjunction with American Opera Projects, and Alma in Lee Hoiby’s Summer and Smoke at Manhattan School of Music. Other appearances have included Barbarina and First Bridesmaid in Le nozze di Figaro, Damigella in L’incoronazione di Poppea, First Lady in scenes from Die Zauberflöte, and Josephine in scenes from HMS Pinafore. Ms. Herman holds a Master’s degree and Professional Studies certificate for Voice Performance from Manhattan School of Music, and a Bachelor of Music from the Purchase College Conservatory of Music.

Ms. Herman’s first experience singing opera was as a soprano in the children’s chorus of La Bohème with PORTopera in her hometown of Portland, Maine, where she also sang in the chorus of Cavalleria Rusticana and I Pagliacci. In 2007, Ms. Herman was honored as one of PORTopera’s Emerging Artists and performed the role of Gasparina in La Canterina, a Haydn one-act opera, and also made several appearances with the Portland Symphony Pops. Additionally, she was featured as the Countess in excerpts from Le nozze di Figaro with the Martina Arroyo Foundation. Ms. Herman has also performed with Boston University Tanglewood Institute and Centro Studi Lirica in Novafeltria, Italy.
